🇵🇹 Apex Speed Run: Lisbon recap
Lisbon joins the open, worldwide network of speed runs designed to find the fastest athletes in the real world 🐟
Hey friends, greetings from Denver!
We just got back from an epic 17 days in Lisbon, Portugal. Despite a slow start, we gained momentum and cooked up 13 new ASR courses in our final 11 days—a new record pace for us. We’ve never gone that hard and long on course setting, but the locals helped push us to keep building every day.
With 13 courses, Lisbon is now the European hub for ASR, joining Colorado, México City, and O’ahu as the only places with 9 or more. We’re excited to see how things progress on these new courses in the coming months!
Thank you to Luís Alkmim, Pedro Velus, Edson Miguel, Dean Philp, Pedro Salgado, and Luana Hauptmann, for setting and running with us 🙏 🫶

👀 5 players to watch
1. Luís Alkmim (9 courses run + 4 course records) 🇧🇷 🇵🇹
We’re surprised and honored by the genuine interest and support from the Lisbon parkour community, especially our MVP, Luís Alkmim, who shared countless spots, invited many others, helped set 13 courses, ran 9, and joined us 10 days in a row. With this massive effort in a short time, Luís catapulted from unranked to the ASR top 10 faster than anyone in ASR history!
2. Edson Miguel (4 courses run + 4 course records) 🇸🇹 🇵🇹
Originally from São Tomé, a tropical island off the coast of West Africa, Edson is the only ASR player out of 171 with a perfect player rating of 100 (minimum 4 courses run). He impressed us every time with how quickly and calmly he worked through each course. It’ll be interesting to see how long Edson can maintain a perfect rating!
3. Pedro Velus (5 courses run + 4 course records) 🇧🇷 🇵🇹
Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Pedro is another huge contributor to this Lisbon chapter of ASR. Not only did he complete 2 double-course days with us, he maintained an elite 98.47 player rating. To top things off, he also got 8 of his students to run 3 courses with us!
4. Taylor Carpenter (11 courses run + 11 course records) 🇺🇸
As the ASR all-time leader in course wins and course completions, Taylor added 11 more of each to her collection. Even more impressive is the fact that she achieved all 11 runs and wins in just 9 consecutive days of course setting—a streak unmatched in ASR history so far 👏
5. Pedro Salgado (2 courses run + 1 course record) 🇵🇹
We’re also fired up to have this Lisbon parkour OG and speed parkour legend join the game! While he was out of town for our first week of course setting, Pedro linked up with us as soon as he got back from shooting other projects in Paris. He threw down 2 blazing runs, and we can’t wait to see him on more Lisbon courses.
🌟 2 featured courses
1. Kaos Speed Run 🇵🇹 🔵 ➕
Kaos is 1 of the most legendary parkour spots in Europe, so it was at the top of our list of potential Lisbon course locations. Although we wanted to set 2 or 3 courses here, we’re happy with how well this first course turned out. Hopefully, the Lisbon locals will set another course here soon!
2. Bar Spot Speed Run 🇵🇹 🔵 ➕
Right after Kaos, Luís led us to the nearby Bar Spot, and we were inspired to set a second course of the day. Despite feeling hot and sluggish, Edson and Pedro arrived with the energy that helped us keep going. Between the angled stair sprints, big/high gap jumps, overhanging climb-up, slanted rails, and chainlink + barbed wire fence thread, this course is full of unique and novel elements to challenge everyone.
🏆 Best run
Edson Miguel (14.12 sec), Whale Tail Speed Run 🇵🇹 🔵
It was a treat to watch Edson solve this technical course at another famous Lisbon spot. The video below shows his fourth full run, but he kept trying and shaved even more time off his course record. The way he flows across slanted rails, through the tree, and over the final gaps is perfection 🤌
Located near a beautiful beach and a calisthenics park in western Lisbon, this course comes with 10/10 vibes. Additionally, it’s full of connections between dozens of rails and walls that are sure to entertain all levels and styles. If you’re in Lisbon, it’s worth the 30-minute journey out of the city center.

We’re 1 month into the ASR crowdfunder and have raised almost $2k. Please consider contributing so we can continue to scale and share the project worldwide with millions of new people.
We recently tried vibe coding for the first time to imagine an ASR app! If you’re a dev who can help us create the first Strava-like app for parkour, please get in touch!
Shoutout to Dean Philp, who was visiting Lisbon from Australia, and joined 3 of our sessions. He started parkour a few years ago, at age 39, with Apex online training programs, and clearly, his hard work paid off 🙌
To streamline the verification process of new runs, courses, and locations, we created 3 Google Forms to collect submissions (verify your run, submit new couse, & suggest new spot).
Thanks so much to the Lisbon parkour community for running, setting, and growing this movement. We couldn’t do it without you 🙏
